Ernst Ludwig Kirchner - the street

Kirchner created this painting in a time of loneliness and uncertainty, shortly after the Brücke group had dissolved in 1913. For Kirchner, the prostitute was a symbol of the modern city in which glamor and danger, intimacy and alienation are necessarily side by side and everything is available.
