Jan Matejko - Stańczyk

Jan Mateyko, a Polish painter who is famous for his historical representations such as the Battle of Grunwald, tried to arouse the patriotic spirit of his people with his works. In this famous painting, Stanzzyk, the court jur about King Sigismund I, symbolizes the national conscience: sitting in a chair without bleak, he seems to feel the tragic end of the war against Moscow. The painting made Stańczyk one of the most legendary and popular characters in Polish culture.
