Vincent van Gogh - swords

Van Gogh painted this still life in the psychiatric clinic of Saint-Rémy. For him, the picture was primarily a color study. He strived for a strong color contrast. By placing the purple flowers against a yellow background, he was able to highlight the decorative shapes even more.
