The scream is the popular name for a composition by the Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch from 1893. The original German title, which Munch gave his work, was "the cry of nature", the Norwegian title is "Skrik" (cry). The tortured face on the painting has become one of the most iconic images of art that symbolizes the fear of man.
