René Magritte - Castle in the Pyrenees

René Magritte's masterpiece The castle in the Pyrenees was commissioned by Harry Torczyner, a long -time friend of the artist. From a series of drawings that Magritte suggested, Torczyner selected the image of a large rock on which a castle is enthroned. Torczyner added the hint of a sky on a clear day and a rough, dark sea, because over the Dark Sea the rock rises from hope that is overwhelmed by a fortress.
