Salvador Dalí - the consistency of memory

The persistence of memory is the most famous painting by Salvador Dalí. The work shows three melted pocket watches, which are arranged in the Catalan landscape in front of the rugged rocks of the Cap de Creus. A fly sits on one of the watches that symbolizes how time flies. Another is eaten by ants, which symbolizes transience and decay. In the middle of the picture, a watch runs on an abstract face shown in the profile face of the artist who has closed his eyes.
